Fluid Thoughts And Movement In Action

While I have taken drawing courses before, I found this course interesting in the use of motion within the drawings, a concept I had never really explored before. I found the end results to be quite dynamic. I had some problems with using ink as a medium; watercolor has always been a challenge for me and I don't know that I had enough time to really re-develop the skills I needed to achieve the drawings I wanted. However, I think the charcoal drawings came out nicely and the course definitely tore down some pre-conceived notions I had about drawing. Overall a very satisfying workshop.

Architecture In Motion

Called 'Ascension' this is a study of the main stairwell of the Red Center. The idea came from the fact that I spend so much time running up and down those stairs and that, with any journey, you rarely make it to point A to point B without a few detours.

Colour Atlas Photos

Atlas of Color was incredibly work intensive but I highly enjoyed the projects. I find in most of our courses to date we have used primarily black and white; however, I feel color is so important and it was good to scratch the surface of color theory and how we can use color for ultimate effect.

My atlas was based on the precedent book Jean Nouvel: The Elements of Architecture and I used a split complimentary color scheme of blue with yellow/orange and red/orange. The tunnel book was based on a cafe near my apartment whose color scheme just happened to match that I wanted to pursue in my atlas.

Just two words of warning on this. When stepping on the elevators press 'e' to make them move. Also there are some unfortunate circles in the sky when you play, had to do with some of my cylinders cutting into the map. I couldn't do much about them by the time I realized what had happened.

Artwork

My idea for a business partnership between Obama and Prada lay in the art. Due to her connections in the art world and her foundation I imagined Prada starting a program for underprivileged children to receive an education in the arts and going to Obama for his help with making it a government program...or something along those lines. Anyway I wanted to include art in their offices and I just wanted to give information on what the pieces are.

The artwork on Prada's walls are works by James Jean. His art was an inspiration for one of Prada's collections and he has been commissioned by her as well. The works really helped me pick the textures and lighting for the space. More works by him can be seen at http://www.jamesjean.com/
